Practice Preparation
Baseball Practice Tips is designed to help youth baseball coaches teach individual and team baseball skills and add more fun to
their baseball practices.
It can be a daunting task to be a youth baseball or softball coach. Sure, you played the game, but coaching it is a completely different thing. There are a dozen or more eager boys and girls ready to learn from you. But, if you run a baseball practice where one kid hits and the rest stand around and field, you will be a failure as a baseball coach. You will soon find your players saying “baseball is boring.” And, with a practice like that, baseball definitely is boring.
The rule of thumb is that the younger the players are, the less attention span that they have. For the youngest players, age 8 and under, baseball practices are usually about 90 minutes long. It’s important that you change up the drills you are doing every 5 – 10 minutes for the youngest players. Otherwise, they will get bored.
So, that means you will need nine or more drills in a 90 minute practice. How do you come up with these baseball drills to keep your team interested in the game?
That’s where Baseball Practice Tips comes in. We’ll give you the baseball drills you need to make every practice an interesting one, regardless of the age of the players.
Do your homework. Come prepared for baseball practice with a written practice plan. You wouldn’t go into a business meeting without a power point or written materials so don’t come to a baseball practice without a plan either. There are a dozen or more kids counting on you to be prepared.
If you have some great baseball practice tips of your own, please let us know by sending an email to ballparkbob at comcast dot net. We’ll give you credit for the drills and give you a link back to your site if desired.
